Aiken, SC (21 February 2020, 2:00 pm) – In the late evening of October 6, 2019, Aiken County Sheriff’s Office began in investigation into the shooting death of Willie James Simmons Jr. When responding deputies arrived at Mr. Simmons home, they found him just inside of the front door, bleeding from an apparent gunshot wound to his chest. Other occupants in the home told deputies that they were awoken by the sounds of gunfire coming from outside as bullets stuck the side of the house. One witness was able to tell investigators that they saw a person standing next to a car at the edge of the road firing a rifle towards the home, located in the 3100 block of Silver Bluff Road. First responders and Aiken County EMS (South Star) were called to the home to assist Mr. Simmons. Unfortunately, Mr. Simmons succumbed to his injuries while on scene as stated by Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables on October 7th.
Investigators are seeking the public’s assistance on any information that would lead to the identifying the person or persons who are connected to the death of Mr. Simmons.
